Our Story

Why we exist

When our son Levi was diagnosed with Rhabdomyoscarcoma, a rare pediatric cancer, at just two years old, our world changed in an instant. We had followed Jesus for many years, but nothing prepares a parent to hear the words "your child has cancer." Sitting in that hospital room, holding our little boy, we faced fear, uncertainty, and questions we never imagined asking. Even so, we chose to trust the Lord to walk with us through every moment and to provide for every need.

The unexpected isolation of childhood cancer

Although we were surrounded by love from our family, church, and community, they were two hours away. We knew people cared deeply, yet we often felt alone. The weight of the diagnosis touched every part of our lives - our son's future, our other children, our jobs, our home, and the dreams we held for our family. Cancer didn't just affect Levi; it changed everything.

We also discovered that the hospital system, while excellent medically, could not meet the emotional and spiritual needs we carried. During Levi's treatment, we were blessed to receive support during chemo, prayer services, and opportunities for spiritual conversations with other believers. Our church family served us faithfully with meals, practical help, gifts, and constant prayer. Their love was a testimony to God's care for His children.

As we met other families in the hospital, we realized how rare this kind of support was. Many parents were walking through the same nightmare without community, without help, and without hope.

A burden for families without support

Our hearts broke as we listened to stories of families facing cancer alone - families experiencing strained relationships, financial devastation, and overwhelming fear. What grieved us most deeply were the families who did not know Christ. For those who belong to Jesus, suffering is never the end of the story. We walk through hardship with the hope of eternity, knowing that Christ has conquered death and that healing and wholeness awaits us in His presence.

The Gospel changes everything. It transforms the devastation of childhood cancer by reminding us that suffering is temporary and that Jesus has already won. Cancer does not get the final word.

Our Calling: Love big, love well

Love Big Love Well was born from a desire to bring hope, support, and the love of Christ to families facing the fear and uncertainty of a child's diagnosis. Our mission is to:

  • Share the hope of Jesus with families who are hurting

  • Meet practical needs so parents can focus on their child

  • Encourage believers to remain steadfast in faith

  • Offer spiritual support that hospitals cannot provide

  • Create opportunities for prayer, conversation, and community in the midst of suffering

We want unbelieving families to know there is a Savior who loves them, died for them, and defeated death. We want believing families to be strengthened, encouraged, and reminded that they are not alone.

The spiritual needs of children matter

One of the most overlooked realities in pediatric medicine is the spiritual life of the child. Emotional support is not the same as spiritual support. Our sweet Levi knew Jesus, and his faith gave him a peace and courage far beyond his years. He was not crippled by fear, and that was the beautiful fruit of his trust in Christ.

We long for every child and every family to experience that same peace. Scripture tells us repeatedly not to fear, and because of Jesus, we don't have to. Especially in the darkest moments, we want families to know the One who brings light, comfort, and eternal hope.
